SWAIN COUNTY, N.C. – A Swain County man has been convicted of second-degree murder in the 2018 beating death of his uncle. According to court documents, Shane McKinley Swimmer hit the victim in the head multiple times at the man’s Swain County home, within the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians reservation. Officers with the Cherokee Indian Police Department arrested Swimmer shortly after the fatal assault. He remains in federal custody and faces life in prison when he is sentenced.
