Property owners currently being served by the Center Pigeon Fire Department, but not within the fire district boundaries could soon see bigger insurance savings. Until recently, property owners got no break on their home insurance coverage if they lived more than 5 miles from a fire department, but now that the rules have changed to 7 miles those living in that additional two-mile zone could benefit from lower insurance rates if they are added to the fire district. Haywood County Board of Commissioners are inviting residents to attend a session this Thursday [April 20], at the Center Pigeon Fire Department, on Pisgah Drive in Canton to discuss changing the fire district taxation boundaries, which officials noted would actually save property owners money because the insurance cost reduction would cover property taxes.
