Plans for a makeover at McCormick Field are moving forward

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) – Plans for a makeover at McCormick Field are moving forward. Buncombe County commissioners voted in favor of funding up to $250,000 a year for 20 years for McCormick Field renovations during a meeting Tuesday [March 21], 2023. The county’s vote comes after the city of Asheville committed around $19 million last week. Commissioners will meet again to come up with contingencies and have a final vote.

MEANWHILE…

Some of the upgrades are needed to meet standards set by Major League Baseball (MLB). If the standards aren’t met, MLB has the right to revoke the affiliation license, which would impact the Toursts team and Minor League Baseball in Asheville, propoenents of the project said. County officials said there will be contingencies before they have their final vote on what funds they will provide, but did not set a date for a final decision.
