HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) – A common, highly contagious, virus is on the rise in the mountains. Outbreaks of the very contagious norovirus have forced some schools to suspend classes, and officials said it has circulated this year and hit people quite hard, including adults.
MEANWHILE…
As the virus spreads, and hospitals fill up, there are now concerns about longer wait times in Western North Carolina emergency rooms. In some cases, officials said patients are rushing to get immediate care, instead of being willing to wait and see their doctor’s office. The area’s population growth also plays a factor in incredibly high volumes at local emergency rooms, which has resulted in hours-long wait times and record-high numbers of patients.
