Identity of woman found dead in Nantahala National Forest confirmed

A preliminarily report has confirmed the identity of a woman found dead in Nantahala National Forest. Alison Thomas, 37, of Union County, reportedly was last known to be alive the day before Valentine’s Day [Feb. 13], according to the report. A search for her began on Feb. 14 and days went by with no success, until the recent discovery of her remains last week at Horseshoe Rock east of Wolf Creek Lake. The ongoing investigation will include both counties, as Thomas was a Union County resident but her body was found in Jackson County’s jurisdiction.

Meanwhile…

UCSO officials did not confirm that there is a person of interest in the case but did say Thomas’ death is being investigated as a homicide. Anyone with details into the 37 year old’s disappearance is urged to call either the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office or the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
