N.C. Department of Consumer Services’ cracking down on stores overcharging customers

RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ is cracking down on stores overcharging customers. According to a news release, 52 stores in 33 counties were cited and fined, including in Swain County at Bryson City IGA on East Main St., because of excessive price-scanner errors of prices advertised and the prices that ring up at the register not matching up. Mostly big box chain stores, like Walmart, Family dollar, General Dollar, and target were listed in the regional report, as well as some well known convenience stores, such as Circle K and 7-11. Shoppers are reminded, it is always a good practice to check your receipt as well as the price on the shelf to make sure you are paying the correct amount and alert managers if the prices don’t match.
