A former Western North Carolina University student who received a boost from Sylva played a key role in getting the nation’s Christmas tree to Washington, D.C. U.S. Forest Service Forestry Technician Aaron Perez, based in Pisgah National Forest was part of the ‘tree team’ responsible for transporting the 78-foot tall red spruce “Ruby” to the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol last month. The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, also known as “The People’s Tree,” grew in Pisgah National Forest and adorns the West Lawn every year.
