COVID19 cases in the state are on the rise again, and it has a new friend-monkeypox. COVID numbers are trending up in North Carolina, mirroring a national trend, with more than 4,000 cases reported in the state as of Aug. 7. The number of counties deemed “high risk” in North Carolina is 67 out of 100. Last week, 61 counties were red on the map, indicating high community spread.
MEANWHILE…
Jackson County’s seven-day average jumped from five to 17 in late April and has bounced up and down since, increasing to 12 as of Sunday [Aug. 7], adding to the already more than 10,600 cases recorded.
Cases rose again this past week, according to the Jackson County Department of Public Heath. Monkeypox continues to spread and make headlines.
AND….
If that’s not enough to worry about with kids heading back to school, the World Health Organization data shows there were 60 monkeypox cases confirmed in neighboring Mecklenburg County Monday. Jackson County has not reported any cases, but Haywood and Buncombe counties have, according to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.
