The Highlands Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s office are currently investigating a string of robberies at local businesses in recent weeks. Authorities said multiple shops in the Highlands and Cashiers area have been the victims of a shoplifter who has stolen thousands of dollars in merchandise, including back to back incidents on June 16 and June 17, at The Gallery at Highlands in Cabin Couture, and at the Highland Hiker in Highlands. Police determined that the alleged culprit was the same woman at both stores. She’s also suspected of stealing from the Village Hound in Cashiers. Anyone with information about these thefts is urged to contact Highlands police or the Jackson County Sheriff’s department.
