Jackson County has received the first payment from a class action opioid settlement. The county’s first payment amounts to just over $125,600. The settlement follows 3,000 federal lawsuits filed in almost every state including North Carolina, which received $750 million from the agreement to be distributed to the counties and municipalities that accepted the settlement. Jackson County Commissioners have not addressed how the money will be spent.
