Friends of Panthertown is rallying in support of protecting the bears. A proposal to open Panthertown and Defeat Bear Sanctuary to hunting has prompted the conservstion group to issue a statement decrying the move, urging the public to submit comments against it at, ncwildlife.org. Commissioners will meet on Feb. 24. If approved, hunts are projected to begin in the 2022-23 hunting season.
