Storms leave thousands of people powerless

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) – Storms on Monday left thousands of people powerless. Duke Energy worked to restore services in Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina, to at least 41,000 customers left without electricity at the height of Monday’s storms. Most areas in WNC were under a tornado watch for most of the day as the mountains were under a level 3 out of 5 risk, which is high for the region. Damaging winds and hail also had an impact on trees and power lines in the area, but an official with Duke Energy said that the utility was prepared.
