CANTON, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – Pactiv Evergreen is under scrutiny after the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) announced the company illegally dumped chemicals into its wastewater treatment center. Pactiv Evergreen officials said that they regularly discarded the same materials while the mill was open. Pactiv Evergreen faces a penalty of $25,000 per day per violation. North Carolina officials said the money would be used to help recoup investigative costs, and the rest would go to a fund for public school expenses.
