HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) – It’s been nearly two years after the deadly flooding from Tropical Storm Fred and some Haywood County residents still living in temporary housing are getting some help. The Haywood County Board of Commissioners just approved $20,000 to help families with utilities or paying rent. When heavy rainfall from the remnants of Fred hit, some residents in Haywood County were relocated into mobile homes and campers, many of whom have called that home ever since. Aug. 17 marks the two-year anniversary of Fred, and officials said they’re still working on removing debris from the East Fork of the Pigeon River.
