JACKSON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) – The Southwestern Child Development Commission is consolidating childhood education centers in Jackson County. The SCDC said in a press release they had to consolidate five of the centers into one due to some financial constraints. American Rescue Plan funds helped, but officials said those funds are drying up, and the pandemic has changed family dynamics and needs, with a lot of people working from home following COVID, and that has caused lower than usual enrollment and resulted in staff shoratages. Beginning this week, five Southwestern Child Development centers in Jackson County have all combined into the Webster facility. SCDC officials said they’re now counting on the General Assembly to find some funding.
