Western North Carolina counties could see improved internet access

Residents in eight Western North Carolina counties could see improved internet access in the next three years as part of the federally-funded GREAT grant. The program will provide more than $16 million to boost broadband infrastructure in the latest round of federal funding which aims to expand affordable, high-speed internet in underserved areas, including Buncombe, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Jackson, Macon, Swain, and Transylvania counties. Across North Carolina, thousands of households and businesses in 33 counties will get high-speed internet thanks to nearly $80 million in federal funding.
