CANTON, N.C. (WLOS) – Transparency is the reason given for a recent pause on any future projects at the now shuttered Canton paper mill. Canton leaders recently voted [July 13], to enact a 365-day moratorium at the Pactiv Evergreen site to make sure the town is on board and has a say about any developments at the plant in Canton that closed for good last month, Canton Mayor Zeb Smathers said. Canton has two major industrial zones – the site of the former paper mill and Beaverdam Industrial Park. This moratorium covers both.
