CLYDE, N.C. (WLOS) – Haywood County Schools has applied for $20 million in federal funding to rebuild Central Haywood High School, following extensive flood damage in 2021 that left the building in disrepair. Central Haywood High remains closed, and now, where to rebuild the school is open for discussion. While the superintendent hasn’t ruled out a Clyde location, land along Ratcliff Cove Road in Waynesville is a possible option, but officials say they are worried that would put a strain on students and parents if they have to go to Waynesville. Officials said in an update on Monday, that they are waiting for a conference report on the budget to know if the funding request has been approved. That could be as early as this week or as late as July before it’s released.
