Haywood County Schools approved the purchase of a 28.6-acre tract in Waynesville to house flood-prone services during a special-called meeting of the Haywood County Board of Education this week [June 19]. The school system intends to use the property to relocate its information technology infrastructure currently housed at Central Haywood High School in Clyde, which was damaged twice in the floods of 2004 and again in 2021. The new property, near the roundabout on Ratcliff Cove Road, could also house even more than just flood-relocated items, including the school bus maintenance garage and food services, officials said.
