Work on Russ Ave. Widening project set to begin this fall

Work on the Russ Ave. Widening project can’t begin until the town of Waynesville moves its power poles and power lines out of the way. While the road project is being carried out by the N.C. Department of Transportation, utilities located in the right-of-way – from cable to water to electrical – must bear the cost of relocating the infrastructure. The city says the relocation comes with a $7000,000 price tag. The project is set to begin in August.

MEANWHILE…

Traffic along Russ Avenue will experience some disruptions once the widening project actually gets underway, officials warn.
