SYLVA, N.C. (WLOS) – The question of whether students involved in what began as a harmless highschool senior prank that ended with an investigation into ‘criminal acts,’ should be allowed to graduate has been answered. A letter his week [may 22] from the Jackson County Public Schools Superintendent, and principal, to Smoky Mountain High School students and families, said the students “will be permitted to participate in graduation ceremonies,” but made it clear, the group of about 20 will still be held accountable for the May 16 incident in which they now could be facing vandalism and trespassing charges. The investigation is continuing and more students are expected to be charged, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
