ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) – A suspect is in custody after a police shootout at the Buncombe County Magistrate’s Office early Sunday morning in which a deputy was injured. A spokesperson for the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office says when deputies spotted a suspect involved in a prior domestic dispute and attempted to arrest him, the man allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot the deputy in the shoulder. The deputy then returned gunfire and struck the suspect, a press release from the sheriff’s office says. The suspect fled the scene, but was later taken into custody outside Mission Hospital. The sheriff’s office says the deputy was released from the hospital later Sunday after being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigtion into the shooting.
