North Carolina Republicans introduce 12-week abortion ban

North Carolina Republicans introduced a 12-week abortion ban Tuesday, a move that would significantly narrow the window for legal abortions but stop short of the more restrictive bans that have been enacted in other Southern states. Senate Bill 20 states that there’s a limit to elective abortions in the second and third trimesters. It lists exceptions for rape and incest through 20 weeks and “life-limiting fetal anomalies” through 24 weeks. It would also mandate an ‘extensive informed consent process” 72 hours before any medical procedure.
