UPDATE – Coroner deems death of Bryson City business owner a homicide

New details have been released about the cause and manner of death of a Bryson City business owner, leading to a homicide ruling. The state medical examiner determined Lambert Gaines Wilson died after he was shot five times with a 10 mm caliber handgun. He was found dead on the sidewalk in front of the El Camino Motel he owned in Cherokee on Oct. 20 following an argument with a couple, according to the update. Wilson was greatly admired in Swain and Jackson counties and on the Qualla Boundary and spent 31 years as a Swain County teacher.
Wilson was 68 years old.
