HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) – No charges will be filed in a fatal freak accident along I-40 in which a Charlotte man was killed. Troopers say, 68-year-old Bronnie Cummings’s vehicle was struck by a flying tire that had come loose from a 1989 Ford Ranger traveling west near Canton, causing the deadly wreck on Friday [April 21].
The tire hit the windshield of Cumming’s SUV and he reportedly died on impact. Authorities say a 55-year-old who was a passenger also suffered life-threatening injuries. In an update on Monday, a spokesperson with the N.C. State Highway Patrol said, following an investigation there would be no charges in the case.
