EBCI allocating over $60 million for their cannibas program

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is allocating over $60 million for their cannibas program. The infrastructure is already in place for a cannibas retail facility in Cherokee, with an economic impact for this area expected to generate millions of dollars, both in product sales and an expected job growth. Tribal leaders said the old bingo building will be transformed into the store, which they touted as the largest medical cannabis retail store in the U.S., eventually employing 400 to 500 workers, adding to the tribal’s already 7,000+ workforce, one of the largest in the state. The tribal council approved medical marijuana last year, making their territory as the first place in North Carolina where medical marijuana is legal.
