Sylva finally recieved a yes on its municipal grant request, after commissioners said no to the application earlier this year, but it comes with a caveat. County commissioners decided to approve a portion of the $5,000 grant, but declined to fund the ‘Murals on Mill,’ project that organizers say would have given several local and regional artists the chance to showcase their work. The plan was to have three rotating murals on Mill Street over the course of the year. However, commissioners voiced concerns about and denied grant funding for the controversial art initiative.
