MAGGIE VALLEY – Haywood county and municipal leaders are joining forces to help the town of Canton following the closure of the paper mill. During their recent council meeting, at Maggie Valley Town Hall officials pledged solidarity and agreed that ensuring displaced employees were taken care of was a top priority and to support Canton in any way they could.

N.C.’s Attorney General pledged his office’s full support in holding Pactiv Evergreen accountable to both a $12 million contract signed with the state, as well as all the state’s environmental laws. He said the closing of the mill is a breach contract, which triggers an immediate repayment, The Mountaineer reported Friday.
