Future of mixed-use development in Cherokee looks bright

The Cherokee Tribal Council recently approved $275,000 to buy out the lease of a Painttown Road business, paving the way for a future mixed-use development. The planned $17 million project would include 54 three-bedroom and four-bedroom residential units, as well as 8,000 square feet of commercial space. The property’s location a quarter-mile down the road from the headquarters of Qualla Enterprises, which is launching the tribe’s medical cannabis enterprise this year, will make it extremely valuable in the future, tribal leaders boasted.
