WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) – Haywood County leaders said a $4 million HUD grant, which will help pay for affordable housing, is headed to the area. The HUD money will be added to $7 million in federal funds the county received after the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred devastated the area. County officials will take grant applications from nonprofits that specialize in affordable housing. Haywood County will have until the end of 2027 to allocate all $4 million.
