Western North Carolina beach officials warn residents not to touch Chinese spy balloon debris expected to wash ashore near border

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The infamous Chinese Surveillance Balloon floating over several states and sensitive military sites made its way across the mountains of Western North Carolina, and beach officials warn residents not to touch Chinese spy balloon debris that is expected to wash ashore, after it was shot down near the North Carolina/South Carolina border. The appx. 65,000 foot Surveillance Balloon was spotted in the sky across Haywood County Saturday morning. It fell about 6 miles off the coast in shallow water, which officials said should make recovery “fairly easy.”
