A Friday morning fire has prompted Sylva Fire Chief Mike Beck to issue a reminder to residents about fire safety. The fire, at 40 Champion Lane, left a mother and son homeless but alive, thanks to closed doors and smoke alarms, Beck says plays an important role in securing your safety. All Jackson County fire departments and the Fire Marshal’s office offer free smoke alarms for residents.
