A search for a missing Georgia man on the Blue Ridge Parkway near U.S. 276 thankfully ended with him being found safe and sound Thursday afternoon. Despite bitter cold temperatures overnight Wednesday, Haywood Search and Rescue says Osha Ray Berry survived the frigid temperatures at 5,000 feet of elevation near Frying Pan Tower in Haywood County overnight on Wednesday. Park rangers discovered Berry was missing after finding his abandoned vehicle at the Pink Beds overlook, which is closed to the public due to winter conditions, with a gate across the Parkway. Officials say the 39 year old apparently drove through the closed gate, according to a Parkway media statement. He was taken to Transylvania Regional Hospital to be treated for exposure, but was otherwise OK.
