Four bridges in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be closed at times over the next several weeks for routine improvements. Work kicked off yesterday [1/24] and vehicles will not be able to cross each bridge for two to three days while crews work on the repairs, alternately through Feb. 1, according to a news release from the Park Service. In addition to the bridge repairs, new safety measures being installed alongside roadways at some trailheads and popular vistas also will cause single-lane closures at least until the end of March. This project coincides with start of the new parking fee system and is intended to help keep drivers and pedestrians safe.
