WNC man pleaded guilty for his role in deadly Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) – A western North Carolina man who pleaded guilty to a felony related to the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection has learned his fate. As part of the plea deal, Lewis Easton Cantwell, of Waynesville, was sentenced to five months in prison for obstructing, impeding or interfering with law enforcement, in connection to the event in which violent and armed Trump supporters breached the capitol resulting in multiple deaths, inclucing police officers. He was originally charged with six crimes. In addition to the prison time, Cantwell will also have three years probation and must pay restitution a judge ordered.
