Following an equipment failure in Cherokee last week that left thousands of Sylva residents without electricity, Duke energy officials are looking at ways to prevent this from happening in the future. About 13,500 Duke energy customers in Northern Jackson County were left in the dark for several hours on Black Friday, including in eastern and southern Sylva, Webster, and the Camp Creek Road area, according to a Duke Energy spokesman.
