The case against a Haywood County woman indicted on 58 counts of threatening elected officials with phony subpeonas has now grown into a multistate conspiracy, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. Darris Gibson Moody was arrested by the FBI in Sept., after fake summons, downloaded from a website, were sent to Democrats and Republicans at federal, state and local levels of government alleging acts of treason and various environmental crimes, and demanding that the officials surrender to a tribunal, or be subject to bounties of $10,000 to $20,000 for their apprehension. Two additional defendants were also added to the case, including the guy who runs the website with copies of the writs Moody is accused of sending. He is slated for a second hearing in the now expanded case next week. His exact role in the conspiracy isn’t yet known. Moody’s trial date has been set for Jan. 4, 2023.
