Plans to build affordable housing in the Camp Creek area are moving ahead

Plans to build affordable housing in the Camp Creek area are moving ahead. If a project proposed by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians comes to fruition, up to 495 units, including cottages, shotgun houses, single-family and multiple-family homes would be developed on a plot of farmland straddling Camp Creek Road in Qualla Township, about 1.5 miles east as the crow flies of the Qualla Community Building. Office and commercial space and hiking trails are all in the mix as well. Developers avoided disturbing the most sensitive areas of the plot, like spring heads. The current plan will be reviewed during the Jackson County Planning Board’s Dec. 8, meeting.
