HAYWOOD COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Haywood County Emergency Services said officials battled a blaze in Pigsah National Forest dubbed The Hurricane Ridge fire, near Harmon Den off I-40, first reported the day before Thanksgiving [Nov. 23], which had grown from 60 acres to 150 by Friday, according to a release on Monday. The North Carolina Forest Service said that multiple forest fires were reported throughout the state on Thanksgiving Day. As of Friday morning, they had responded to 152 active fires in North Carolina that impacted almost 1,000 acres.
