A Florida man arrested in Asheville on 2020 drug and weapons charges has been convicted by a federal jury in Asheville. The case against Jorge Luis Perez stems from two separate traffic stops by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, at Mark Watson Park and another in Swain County, as part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force operation. Officers confiscated a large quantity of methamphetamine, multiple firearms and thousands of dollars in cash, during the investigation, according to a news release. Perez remains in custody and faces more than three decades in prison. A sentencing date has not been set.
