Sylva officials are working to address a growing panhandling problem

Sylva officials are working to address a growing panhandling problem in the area. During their most recent meeting Sylva town board members voted unanimously to hold a public hearing to update the town’s rules on Nov. 10. The town’s existing ordinances, updated earlier this year, does not have verbiage addressing panhandling. The new language would amend the streets and sidewalk portions of the ordinances and list prohibited acts, including aggressive solicitation and any threatening behavior, according to a statement.
