HOT SPRINGS, N.C. (WLOS) – Public discussions began on what happens next for a popular local hiking destination. Trail supervisors hosted the first open house this week at the Spring Creek Community Center to discuss the future of Max Patch with the public and get community input. Leaders have been looking for ways to improve Max Patch since restrictions were implemented following on-going problems of littering. Those restrictions included no camping, fires or large crowds. Wednesday night, leaders emphasized they want to focus on adding a bathroom and extending parking. Officials said they will start building a public consensus around what the next steps for Max Patch should be. The next open house will be held virtually on Oct. 18.
