BREVARD, N.C. (WLOS) – Brevard residents and leaders came together Saturday morning [Oct. 22], to celebrate the grand opening of the city’s new $2.5 million Mary C Jenkins Community and Cultural Center, which has been years in the making. The brand new Mary C Jenkins Community & Cultural Center (MCJCC), located at 221 Mills Avenue, has been in the works for nearly five years and replaces the original and historic Mary C Jenkins Community Center, which was abandoned in 2018 due to its age and deterorating condition, with a more modern design and building. The new facility was created to be accessible to both the public and the historically Black Rosenwald community. The building is available for use by individuals and nonprofits for a small fee.
