MACON COUNTY, N.C. – A Macon County woman died in a fire early Monday morning at her home. According to the fire marshal, crews responded to the fire just after midnight [12:30 a.m.], at a home on Bradley Creek Road in Macon County, and reported the structure was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. The cause and origin of the fire are being investigated.

Authorities are releasing more information about several fires they responded to over the weekend. The Fire Marshal’s Office says a fire late Sunday night damaged several units at a motel complex on Georgia Road, leaving 11 occupants displaced. One person was evaluated for possible smoke inhalation. And, the Fire Marshal’s Office says crews responded to five reported brush fires over the weekend, as well. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating. Officials are reminding residents to avoid outdoor burning, as dry conditions are forecast throughout the week with only a slim chance of rainfall, Monday’s release says.
