SWAIN COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) – Doors to the bathrooms at Swain County High School were removed, prompting privacy protests at the campus. Students demonstrated outside the school Thursday morning [Sept. 29], and took to social media, to criticize the action calling it “despicable and a horrible invasion of privacy.” Swain County school leaders say they took down the doors to the boys’ and girls’ bathrooms at the high school to curtail a growing vaping and vandalism problem, with vaping detectors recording several incidents in the bathrooms. The removal of the doors was meant to help identify those violators, but students say they’re right to privacy is violated. Swain School officials said they will put the doors back on Monday [Oct. 3].
