Asheville leaders considering zoning change to address need for affordable housing

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) – Asheville leaders are considering a change to zoning regulations when it comes to manufactured or mobile homes to address the need for affordable housing. To give Asheville residents a bit more flexibility when it comes to manufactured housing, city planners are considering a change to zoning regulations to allow the replacement of manufactured, or mobile homes, on sites where they previously existed, saying affordable housing comes in different forms and shapes. City rules prevent the replacement of manufactured homes when they’ve been removed and prevent another home from being placed on that property after six months have passed. Under the proposed zoning text amendment, manufactured homes could be replaced with no time limit if they’re in a mobile home park. The goal is to stop the attrition of manufactured homes and maintain diversity in the housing supply.
