Sylva police have filed official charges against a hit and run suspect

Sylva police have filed official charges against a hit and run suspect for striking two Sylva residents with his truck and then driving off. Sylva Police said, Michael Thad Schrader, 52, was in a dispute about money with, Eva Massingale, 66, and Ronald Wilson, 75, and as they were walking through a parking lot he drove into them knocking both to the ground. When Schrader sped off, the victims’ shopping cart with all their groceries in it actually stuck to the truck and was pushed somewhere down the road. The victims’ suffered some “bumps and bruises,” authorities said, but were checked out by EMS and given the “all clear.” Schrader is facing felony hit and run and two misdemeanor counts of assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Jackson County Detention Center online roster.
