Unruly behavior prompts rule changes for poll observers

The N.C. State Board of Elections has implemented rule changes for poll observers and poll workers after misbehavior by some partisan poll watchers during May’s primaries. The state BOE voted unanimously to approve the temporary rule changes, which will now be reviewed by the state’s Rules and Review Commission to be considered for adoption ahead of the Nov. 8 general election. The move comes after at least 15 counties reported disruptive and, in some cases, intimidating behaviors by partisan poll observers, a press release from NCSBE said.
