Plans to expand Bracken Preserve moving forward

BREVARD, N.C. (WLOS) – The city of Brevard is partnering with Conserving Carolina to raise $325,000 needed to expand the Bracken Preserve. The goal, officials said, is to make it more inviting and usable for people of all ages, skill levels and fitness levels. In order to make it safer and more accessible for all people, the city is looking to purchase 34 acres of adjacent forest land which would create an additional 2-3 miles of moderate trails in the preserve, thereby expanding the current 9-mile network. Donations to expand the preserve can be made through Conserving Carolina or online, by phone or by sending a check. The City is also planning a fundraising event called Brackenfest for Sept. 25.
