The country’s most-visited national park will soon have a new fee for visitors. Starting March 2023, parking tags will be required to be displayed on any motor vehicle parked within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park boundary. Visitors will be charged $5 for a daily parking tag, $15 for a parking tag up to seven days or $40 for an annual tag. The decision to adopt the fees is part of the Park it Forward parking tag program to increase camping fees. The money generated from the parking fees will help maintain the park over the long haul, according to a news release from the Park Service. It still will be free to use all park roads and tags aren’t required for drivers who park for less than 15 minutes. The entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park park is free.
